Seeing and Feeling Your Best: The Beauty of Blepharoplasty
It happens to us all- the day you look in the mirror after a restful night's sleep and think “now when did I start to look so tired?!” While the stresses of day to day life can wear us down, our own lids can also start to weigh our mind and body down too…literally! Let’s talk about why this client concern happens and how we can solve this common confidence issue with a surgical procedure called a blepharoplasty here at ARTVision.
As we age, the skin around our eyes starts to lose its essential elasticity, structure, and support; leading to sagging eyelids, puffiness, and the appearance of being tired or feeling prematurely “aged” beyond our years [1]. Oftentimes this is when we start to struggle with the reflection we see in the mirror- no matter how much sleep we get or how many eye masks we do, nothing seems to relieve the puffiness or drooping of the lids, leading to a decrease in confidence and satisfaction with our appearance. Let this problem advance, and it can start to cause medical complications including reduction of a patient’s visual field.
A blepharoplasty is the way to combat these medical concerns as well as cosmetically enhance and refresh your appearance. A blepharoplasty is a straightforward surgical procedure that involves the removal of excess skin and fat from around our eyelids [2]. You can complete a blepharoplasty on your upper or lower lids, depending on patient concern and medical recommendation from Dr. Tendler. After a small recovery period that involves some swelling and bruising, patients can expect to feel more awake, more youthful in appearance, and less encumbered by heavy, hanging eyelids!
However, Dr. Tendler saw a not only patient need to see the world better, but see themselves better- so she has also mastered and expanded her services into the world of aesthetic medicine to maximize her patient’s results and satisfaction. If you wish to maximize your results from a blepharoplasty, it is often recommended to incorporate the aesthetic treatments offered by ARTisan Skin and Laser in conjunction with your surgery at ARTVision.
Common aesthetic services that are paired with a Blepharoplasty here at ARTVision include collagen and elastin stimulating services such as our MORPHEUS8 RF Microneedling and our Sciton Lasers. The healing period of a Blepharoplasty is the perfect time to also recover from a skin service that will work to boost the skin quality of the entire face. Dr. Tendler and her team can create a customized plan to improve the crepey skin texture around your eyes commonly associated with sagging, aging eyes, as well as improve the appearance of crepey, wrinkles, textured, sun damaged skin of the face.
Here at ARTVision and ARTisan Skin and Laser, we are dedicated to helping you see the world better, see yourself better, and guide you every step of the way on that journey!
Common Questions:
What is blepharoplasty?
A blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure where we remove excess skin or fat from around the eye to refresh the eye’s appearance, help with visual deficits, and improve patients’ confidence!
Am I a good candidate for blepharoplasty?
Here at ARTVision, Dr. Tendler will personally assess each patient to determine if they are a good candidate and if there are other treatments, surgical procedures, or aesthetic interventions that will also benefit the patient.
What can I expect during the consultation?
Here at ARTVision, your comfort and smooth continuity of care is our top priority. You will meet our Vision team at your consultation and Dr. Tendler where we will answer your questions and educate you on the procedure, and then this same staff will be with you from consultation, to the surgery, to your follow ups!
What is the recovery process like?
It is very common to have bruising, swelling, and some mild eye irritation for several days after your surgery. However, most patients remark on the easy healing process they have encountered when they follow up with us to remove any sutures they may have around day 10 of your recovery process.
What kind of aftercare will I need?
Here at ARTVision, we will thoroughly go over your pre and post procedure care and are available to answer any questions you may have. You will have ointment to keep the incision site healing well, and we recommend artificial tears to help with any mild dryness you may experience during the recovery process.
Can I combine blepharoplasty with other procedures?
Absolutely! Dr. Tendler is passionate about creating a result you are happy and confident with. Because of this, we offer several additional surgical procedures depending on patient need, and a large variety of aesthetic treatments from ARTisan Skin and Laser to pair with your surgery to maximize your skin quality, skin health, and overall appearance.
