Blepharoplasty is performed on men and women who have excess folding of skin around the upper and/or lower eyelid, creating an aged appearance and possibly obstructing their vision. Prior to your surgery, an ART Vision team member will discuss post-operative instructions and any restrictions.  Dr. Tendler will carefully mark any excess skin to be removed, as indicated by your pre-surgical consultation plan that was created for you.   Anesthesia will be administered.  You will be awake, but comfortable and able to breath on your own throughout the procedure.   During the surgery, Dr. Tendler will carefully remove bulging, folding, loose skin from around the eyes, using discreetly created incisions. Depending on your needs, the surgery may be performed on the top of the eyelid, the bottom eyelid, or both. Following surgery, ice compresses will be placed for approximately 20 minutes while you relax and recover in a recliner.  Vision will be blurry when you leave, and most patients have little discomfort.  

Patients should adhere to the provided aftercare instructions and attend each scheduled visit so that our team can monitor your recovery.  You are encouraged to use cold compresses frequently for any discomfort and to decrease swelling and bruising, which can last for up to 10-14 days and differ for each patient.  Most people have minimal discomfort but can experience blurry and fluctuating vision, foreign body sensation, and dryness. This gets better quickly. Depending upon your healing progress, you can plan to return to work or drive in a matter of days..  As long as everything is going as planned, there is typically only one required visit to ART Vision approximately 10 days after your surgery.  Suture removal will be performed, if needed, and your healing evaluated.  Patients often note an immediate improvement in their visual field, as well as results that help them feel more confident, while still looking natural.
